Scribophile is another free/paid upgrade site that allows you to get feedback on any kind of written work. How it works: you give feedback and edit suggestions on others' work to earn karma points, which allows you to post your own. The paid version allows you to post more ongoing works - should you have the karma points, and gives you access to a member's only 'spotlight' which basically means that you get feedback on your work quicker. You can also swap works with free/paid members that you get to know on a trust basis without karma points.
I used it a lot before I found my current writing groups, I found it so helpful I did pay for it for a couple of years. There might still be discount codes floating around from NaNoWriMos past because they used to sponsor, but given what went down with NNWM this year (last year?) I don't know if it will happen in the future.
From what I understand there were predators in the YWP and management's response was on the spectrum from 'didn't do anything' to 'actively covered it up'. From what I remember, a large part of the ordinary NNWM site's management genuinely didn't know, but that was possibly because literally no-one uses that site anymore after the way they ruined the forums. It wasn't huge crimes as I recall, but it was more that grooming minors with charity money isn't a great look. (Not that grooming minors isn't bad - it was more the absolute nonsense that went on behind the scenes to protect the two or three bad actors that people really took a dislike to. And rightly so! It was a mess.)
It's one of those internet situations where individual moderators have too much power, so when the abuse of one moderator came out, loads of other people were 'and my ML shouted at people' etc. Lots of smaller stuff that could have and should have been sorted out sooner, the fact that nothing bigger happened is by luck and chance it seems, which leaves people, especially those on the YWP, feeling rightfully unsafe.
These are great, thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for reading! :)
